ACT’s PROGRAM, TREAT VICTIMS-FLOOD IN
KARAWANG REGENCY, INDONESIA

Currently, it is SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) era, which begins with a meeting held on September 25–27 2015 at the UN headquarters (United Nations), SDGs consists of 17 main objectives, one of them is the 13th goal, Handling Climate Change (Climate Action). Goal 13 fights and tackles a changing climate and global warming. We already know that Karawang Regency is currently experiencing a flood which has caused a lot of damage in it, especially in the areas of Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Villages, Tanjung Pura District, Karawang Regency. ACT (Aksi Cepat Tanggap) Karawang has an important role in helping flooding victims in Karawang Regency.

ACT (Aksi Cepat Tanggap) is an institution that has an important role in helping disaster victims in every way, especially in the distribution of logistics and food to disaster victims. ACT has a goal, namely to humanize human beings and to improve the welfare of disaster victims due to humans are social creatures who need help. Based on this, ACT has greatly contributed to overcoming and providing assistance to flood victims in Karawang, especially in Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Villages, Tanjung Pura District.

Flooding Vibes

The flood has occurred in Tanjung Pura Subdistrict originated from the overflowing Citarum River, causing approximately 50 families to flee. The flood also disturbed several aspects, including health aspects, infrastructure aspects, and basic needs and food aspects. Many societies were experienced problems with health aspects such as experiencing fever, dengue fever, and water fleas. Material losses in the aspects of infrastructure that residents of Tanjung Pura Subdistrict experienced, such as houses damaged by floods and difficulty in accessing clean water needs. Meanwhile, the most important aspect is basic needs and food those are something that is urgently needed by the societies of Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Villages, Tanjung Pura Subdistrict because in the flood conditions it makes it difficult for residents to find food supplies and also many residents who need basic necessities for their survival such as clothes, blankets, toiletries and so on. One of the ACT Team members as a society of Gempol Tengah Village, namely Kang Zaenudin who is usually called Kang Zae, told about conditions in Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Villages in Tanjung Pura District.

“At the beginning of the floods that hit Tanjung Pura Subdistrict, I saw many societies who were shocked and wanted to flee to protect themselves because the last big floods occurred in the last 10 years. I also saw that many of the residents’ belongings that were caught in the flood were in the form of household appliances or other assets, ”said Kang Zae.

In fact, the flood caused the Society’s house in Gempol Tengah Village and Gempol Nusa Village to be submerged as high as the roof of the house so that the flood also resulted in the evacuation team having difficulty evacuating societies, especially many elderly societies, which we must be careful in evacuating them. One member of the Rescued Team, namely Kang Bima and Kang Zaenudin, told that the evacuation was very severe and full of difficulties during the implementation to the place.

“When I evacuated in Gempol Tengah Village and Gempol Nusa Village, Tanjung Pura Subdistrict, the floods were very severe because the floods caused all societies’ houses in the area to be submerged to the height of the roofs of houses. Even when I did the evacuation I experienced problems such as floodwaters that were so large and unstable, a lot of elderly people, and also the evacuation did not go smoothly due to the many collapsed houses blocking the evacuation route. “ Said Kang Bima.

Meanwhile, Kang Zae told how he had to be alert in evacuating victims affected by flooding in Gempol Tengah Village and Gempol Nusa Village, Tanjung Pura District.

“At that time, I really had to be alert at 2 am a call from the post that I had to evacuate in Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Villages, Tanjung Pura Subdistrict because the floods in the area were very severe and we were in a hurry to evacuate because if we do not rush, the safety of societies will be affected. “ Said Kang Zae.

ACT (Aksi Cepat Tanggap) Karawang has a program to help flood victims in Gempol Tengah Village and Gempol Nusa Village, Tanjung Pura District, Karawang Regency. The program that ACT have, those are namely Humanity Care in the form of care between fellow humans to help each other when a disaster occurs in a disaster-affected area, Spread Donation in the form of delivering donations from philanthropy to affected disaster victims in the form of logistics, food and basic needs of disaster victims where the Spread Donation is carried out directly to the scene and is distributed evenly to all disaster victims, Medical Rescued is in the form of medical assistance from the health team for victims affected by a disaster because this program usually includes a health education and an implementation of treatment for disaster victims if they are contracted by a disease, Social Disaster Program in the form of disaster social assistance delivered to flood victims, Psychosocial in the form of a program that helps improve children’s psychology due to flood disasters that occurred in their area and the activity also usually consists of sharing milk small brain, snack food and so on, and the Post Disaster Program in the form of an implementation program to help residents clean up flood-affected areas and provide assistance such as cleaning tools, this program was also carried out by ACT in order to create a clean and normal environment. The environment is the most important thing for the welfare and health of society. One of the creators of the ACT program, Kang Sidiq, said that

“The ACT programs really help the social welfare because ACT has a goal to humanize the human-beings and they want always make welfare for human beings as a social creature. I joined the ACT because I want to give a further contribution, humanity care, and help each other. why did I do this? because I experienced that is affected by disaster it is difficult, and less of rescued.” said Kang Sidiq.

Until now, ACT has Carried out its program well to be implemented in the society of Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Villages, Tanjung Pura subdistrict. The programs that were provided by ACT give a good impact on the societies of Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Village, Tanjung Pura Subdistrict due to the programs give an effective disaster distribution to societies evenly. hopefully, the societies of Gempol Tengah and Gempol Nusa Villages, Tanjung Pura Subdistrict could do an activity by good and always be given patience and fortitude in dealing with this flood disaster.
